DEAR PQI6004: WEEK 3: DESIGNING CURRICULUM

Dear, PQI6004๐Ÿ˜

Its the third week I'm learning you and thanks to this reflection thing. I think I’m clearly understand this week 3’s topic: Curriculum development. I hope misconceptions does not occur againnn.

Hopefully.

Have you guys ever thought of designing a curriculum? Surely never right unless u have the Minister of Education as your ambition. Just kidding. This looks-simple-yet-complicated thing called ‘curriculum’ is actually very structured.

In order to develop them, several things need to be taken care of. And for today, I will tell you how they design this CURRICULUM. There are 3 aspects of learning that are important to design a curriculum, which are;
1. ELEMENTS
2. PROCESS
3. DESIGN

Then, let me take you to each criteria, first, the Elements in curriculum design.

If world has earth, air, water and fire as its elements,
curriculum has goal, objective, learning experience, structuring learning experience and evaluating the learning experience as its elements.

To avoid confusions, I will explain to you one by one, the definitions behind those elements.

1.       Goal
a.       This goal is not the goal that people are shouting for in the field. This kind of goal is a broader statement of what you (teacher) wants your student to do after completing the lessons.

2.       Objective
a.       Next, objective, a teacher should create an effective objectives for their students, and the criteria of creating an effective objective is that it should consist of a performance, conditions and criterion. For instance, To name at least three

3.       Learning experiences
a.       Learning experience is basically how the teacher delivered the lessons. It can be a student-centered lessons, or an active learning experience with interactive activities. Its all depends on the creativity of the teacher to make every lesson a meaningful experience. This way, student can retain the knowledge for a long time.

4.       Structuring the learning experience.
a.       The learning experience should be structured. There are several examples of learning structure such as horizontal and vertical integration. Teachers can applied them in their lesson.

5.       Evaluating the learning experience
a.       Lastly, these learning experience need to be evaluated. Why? Teachers need to evaluate whether the objective and goal designated for the lesson has been achieved and obtain their students achievement level.

That’s all from me today. My long reflection is coming to an end as the class in week 3 ended with these elements. Will continue this reflection next week. Stay tuned.

Sincerely, D
